While We're All Waiting....

As you can see from the Timeline, the food coop won't be open for a couple years.

What farmer's markets, buying clubs, CSAs or stores (who sell products created from sustainable/fair trade/local/organic practices) do you know of? There's alot of them out there and "word of mouth"....or maybe "dribble from the fingertips" is the best way to pass it on!

Whether you are newly exploring fresher food or been enjoying your food for years, hopefully everyone will be enlightened, or at least raise an eyebrow.

Detailed info is welcomed! (websites, Facebook names, addresses, description, what you love about them)

  1. Wahpeton will be holding its first market this summer!

The Twin Towns Gardners' Market is slated to start up on Thursday, July 8th. It will be held every Thursday after that for the remainder of the summer.

4-7 PM on the lawn of the Leach Public Library.

  2. All I currently know of is the Fargo Farmer's Market, which wasn't open the last two times I tried to attend...Disappointing.

  3. Arielle,
Thanks for the info! Way to get it started! We'll add it to our calendar.

    Kiersten,
Are you talking about the one at the US Bank parking lot? Do you have any insight as to why it wasn't open? (not ready yet perhaps?) Or does anyone else have any insight into this location....I've never personally been this one.

  5. There's a few of us CSA growers on the MN side anyway. Red Goose Gardens and Lakes and Valleys CSA serve Fargo-Moorhead for sure...maybe others.

Don't reinvent the wheel finding what's out there...go to http://www.localfoods.umn.edu/ and http://www.localdirt.com to find growers, CSA operations, and farmers markets in the region. The list gets long.

I'm happy to hear there is work at establishing a F-M coop. I learned about this from the NDSAS newsletter. I have been told by many people who shop our farmers market in Detroit Lakes that Fargo should have a coop.

  6. Ryan, thank you for your comments and interest. The websites provide a lot of options, especially in Minnesota. Unfortunately websites like Local Dirt and Local Harvest aren't an exhaustive list since it requires the producer or organizer to be aware of them, register with them, and keep them up to date. Also, smaller operations like the buying clubs don't have depth to participate in these.

So, great discussion so far everyone....keep the info coming!

Thanks for your hard work at Lida Farm too Ryan!
